Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! At just 190-210 calories, they are great as a breakfast option or in-between meals snack. Real Food Bars can be used as a clean way to lose and sustain weight if eaten in place of a meal or used as a pre- or post-workout recovery option. We understand that everyone has different health goals and dietary needs so we encourage you to speak with a registered dietitian.
Each bar is made with organic blue agave syrup as the sweetener. Lightly sweetened, the bars are low glycemic with fiber that helps to control blood sugar levels. We do not use sugar alcohols as they can upset digestive systems and studies have shown that they can spike sugar levels just as much as regular sugar. Bars marketed as containing 3g of sugar or less often contain sugar alcohols.
We use soluble tapioca root fiber which is known to be very allergen friendly and, unlike inulin or chicory root fiber, is easier to digest and will not cause diahrea-like symptons.
Soluble tapioca fiber is a prebiotic (i.e., gut-friendly) fiber known as a “resistant dextrin”. It is isolated by heating the tapioca root (also known as the cassava root) and extracting its fiber content. While the FDA has recently re-classified certain compounds formerly labeled “fiber” as non-fiber carbohydrates, it has remained firm in its classification of resistant dextrin as a 100% legitimate fiber. Unlike insoluble fiber, soluble fiber slows down the transit of food in the digestive tract. It may reduce blood cholesterol and sugar. It helps your body improve blood glucose control, which can aid in reducing your risk for diabetes.
Soluble tapioca fiber is NOT to be confused with isomalto-oligosaccharide (usually referred to as IMO), which can also be derived from the tapioca root. IMO is not a resistant dextrin, but rather a fiber-like sweetener that the body almost completely breaks down into blood glucose. Here is a great study on the topic, where scientists compare Soluble Corn Fiber (which is virtually chemically identical to Soluble Tapioca Fiber) to IMO and find a vast difference in blood sugar and insulin response.
According to The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), consuming soluble fiber can improve the effects of IBS.
Of course, fiber can be digested differently between individuals. It is always recommended to see what option works best for you.

We use pea protein, rather than other forms, for four reasons…
Pea protein is a complete protein, meaning it has all nine of the essential amino acids you need to effectively build muscle. Pea protein is more digestion-friendly than alternatives like whey because it contains no lactose or glutens. In other words, no bloating! Pea protein is highly bioavailable, meaning it absorbs well in the body. Pea protein is vegan, and far “greener” (i.e., more environmentally friendly) than animal proteins.
By default, orders renew on the date of the original purchase. For example, if you order on the 20th of the month, your next monthly subscription will renew on the 20th of the following month. It will be charged and we will begin processing the shipment on the 20th every month. Login to your account to manage or add subscriptions.
We are on a mission to make honest snacks that are better for you and better for the planet. In doing so, we think thoughtfully about supporting other small businesses across the supply chain that share our mission.
We’ve secured a partnership with a zero waste facility that sources imperfect or surplus produce that would otherwise not be sold and then upcycles the produce into nutritious plant powders. Using a unique machine learning technology, the fruits and vegetables are air dried to lock in the highest level of nutrition.
Why is this important?
According to the CDC, only 1 in 10 Americans consume the recommended daily value of fruits and vegetables in a day. Yet, the United States is the global leader in food waste, with Americans discarding nearly 40 million tons of food every year. That’s 80 billion pounds of food and equates to more than $161 billion, approximately 219 pounds of waste per person and 30-40 percent of the US food supply. All of this is compounded with the fact that an estimated 14 million children in the US are in food insecure households.
As a small business ourselves, we understand how hard it is to start a business. Anna, our founder, is extremely passionate about supporting other woman-owned food brands and giving back in the community. We obsessively love promoting and partnering with other mission-aligned brands.
To-date, we’ve donated over $5,000 worth of product to food banks, nursing homes, kid’s sports camps and nonprofits. Learn more here.
At $2.99 per bar, we are comparable in price to other bars.

As someone in the military, sooner or later we're stuck with MREs. Unfortunately, I'm lactose intolerant and severely limited in what gluten I can intake, and often I'm left with very little I can eat from them. The Real Food Bar has recently come to my rescue for lunch on several occasions, replacing an entire meal when I needed it most. Couldn't ask for a better on-the-go bar, and they taste amazing.
These are definitely much more nutrient dense than any other bar you will get, but I guess that makes sense given that they are bigger than most comparable bars. Packs in a lot of protein and most impressively, fiber for a bar. It's hard to find something like this on the market. Also like the low sugar. Knocking one star just because they could be a little more crunchy. It reminds me of a Thinkthin bar in texture.
