Our COVID Impact
COVID-19 Catapulted Us Into Action
The unprecedented public health crisis of COVID-19 has put a strain on our food system, affecting communities all over the world. Our most vulnerable populations have been disproportionately affected.
In particular, food distribution centers around the country have experienced increased demand for their services as the amount of individuals experiencing job loss as a result of shelter-in-place orders has increased. As I started thinking about how I could support our community, I was struck by comments from our local Central Texas Food Bank. They have been struggling to keep up with demand and struggling to find volunteers to man the food banks.
We owe a debt of gratitude to our tribe – our tribe of generous family, friends and never met acquaintances that feel like long time friends. At first I called up a few nurse and doctor friends I knew who have been treating COVID patients to lend support to the frontline. The response has been amazing. This then led us to find MORE people we could reach out to and help. We reached out and coordinated deliveries to local food banks and local grocery deliveries to communities in need. We even had the pleasure of giving back to families of a youth boxing program in Detroit and a couple nursing homes.
Real Food Bar – creamy nut butters bars packed with hidden veggies and plant-based protein are vegan, gluten-free and dairy free. Anna and Sean Sullivan were inspired to create convenient and tasty ways to propel the industry to not take short cuts when it comes to nutrition.
“We understand that as entrepreneurs, we have a huge opportunity and responsibility to giveback to our community. We hope a small token of a nutritious bar given for free can be nourishing hope for others to pay it forward, as well. ” -Anna Sullivan, founder of Real Food Bar
